ELECTRIFIED POWERTRAINS LEAD THE WAY IN ALL-NEW RX LINEUP
Electrified powertrains headline the all-new Lexus RX lineup, with the RX 350h hybrid the new entry point and the range-topping RX 500h F Sport Performance the new hybrid hero.
The RX 500h F Sport Performance is not only the most powerful hybrid SUV yet offered by Lexus in Australia, but it also redefines the Lexus Driving Signature with a host of dynamic performance enhancements.
Steering, braking and handling have all been sports-tuned on the RX 500h F Sport Performance, taking it beyond the mild sporting modifications associated with traditional F Sport variants.
The fifth-generation family-sized Lexus SUV has been completely reimagined and redesigned, with all variants looking sharper on the road and offering new levels of comfort, refinement and driving enjoyment.
Lexus Australia Chief Executive John Pappas said the launch of the all-new RX is exciting given the model's popularity and significance in this market.
"RX is synonymous with Lexus in Australia. It has helped forge the Lexus brand here, pioneering the luxury SUV concept and winning customers with its refined luxury and thoughtful design.
"The all-new RX builds on the model's long-standing qualities but now encapsulates it in a thoroughly modern and more sporting package that still delivers high on comfort and elegance."
The all-new Lexus RX is priced from $87,5001 plus on-road costs for the RX 350h Luxury hybrid and tops out at $126,0001 plus on-road costs for the RX 500h F Sport Performance.
The range-topper features a high-performance 2.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine in a parallel hybrid arrangement - a Lexus first - producing 273kW and mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and DIRECT4 all-wheel drive (AWD), while the RX 350h with its intelligent hybrid powertrain makes 184kW and is offered with either two-wheel drive (2WD) or AWD which adds $4,500.
Aside from the entry and high-performance hybrid powertrains, buyers can choose the RX 350 F Sport with turbocharged performance petrol engine producing 205kW and 430Nm with electronically controlled AWD grip for a traditional sporty flavour. It is priced from $99,9001 plus on-road costs.
Generously appointed Luxury grade as standard
The RX 350h 2WD and AWD come with Luxury grade as standard and are generously appointed. They have bi-LED headlamps, daytime running lamps (DRLs), front and rear fog lamps, heated and driver's side auto-dimming exterior mirrors, rear privacy glass, roof rails and 19-inch alloy wheels with a five-spoke design combining a bright machined finish and dark grey metallic surface treatment.
All new-generation RX models feature safe exit assist (SEA) incorporating new e-latch electrically activated door handles which can detect cyclists or vehicles passing close to the vehicle and can keep the door closed to avoid a collision.
The blend of sharp styling and strong specification continues inside the cabin, with Luxury grades receiving heated, eight-way adjustable front seats with two-way power lumbar adjustment, synthetic leather trim, three-zone climate control with nanoe®2 X air purification, rear air vents, easy access steering wheel with electrically adjustable steering column, paddle shifters, interior illumination, auto-dimming rear view mirror, carpeted floor mats, four cup holders, tonneau cover and power tailgate.
All RX variants come standard with the latest Lexus multimedia system displayed on an expansive 14-inch high-definition touchscreen, compatible with Android Auto™3 and wireless Apple CarPlay®4 with sophisticated 12-speaker Panasonic®2 sound.
The system offers in-built satellite navigation5, DAB+ digital radio6 and Lexus Connected Services7 functionality, providing further convenience and peace of mind.
Five USB-C ports are found throughout the cabin, along with two 12V sockets and one USB-A port to support multimedia connection and smartphone charging.
A comprehensive suite of Lexus Safety Sense + active safety features are included across the RX range, including the Pre-Collision System with intersection collision avoidance support, emergency steering assist and low-speed acceleration suppression, lane departure alert, dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist, parking support brake, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, and more.8
New features include the driver monitor camera which assesses the driver's state of attention when on the road.8
Both the 350h Luxury 2WD and AWD are available with an optional Enhancement Pack (EP) for an additional $5,1001 (2WD) and $5,5001 (AWD). It comprises panoramic moonroof, leather-accented seat trim, ventilated front seats, easy access seat, driver's seat memory, touch-sensitive steering-wheel controls linked with the head-up display, high-grade instrument cluster display, smart key card and wireless phone charger8.
The RX 350 F Sport has a sharper look with a range of sporting upgrades including unique 21-inch alloy wheels with a gloss black finish, F Sport front and rear bumpers and grille, F Sport exterior badging and black roof rails and exterior mirror caps.
The sporting character is reflected inside with a unique dimpled leather steering wheel, scuff plates, shift knob and instrument cluster, aluminium pedals and heated and ventilated F Sport seats.
F Sport also delivers improved road handling with Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) and superior stopping power with aluminium monoblock six-piston callipers for next level Lexus Driving Signature enjoyment.
The F Sport also introduces a multitude of comfort and convenience features including high-grade three-projector Bi-LED headlamps with BladeScan™2 technology, dynamic auto-levelling, cornering lamps and headlamp cleaners, power tailgate with kick sensor, easy access driver's seat, smart key card, rear door sunshades and multi-colour interior illumination.
Colour head-up display and touch-type steering wheel controls are included, along with a high-grade instrument cluster display, wireless smartphone charging9, Active Noise Control and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson®2 premium surround sound system for exceptional sound reproduction.
Additional safety features include a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) and Adaptive High-Beam System (AHS).
RX 350 F Sport customers can choose the $3,0001 EP 1 adding a sliding panoramic roof or EP 2 which also adds a digital rear-view mirror, Intelligent Parking Assist8 and heated steering wheel for an extra $1,1001.
For customers seeking even more luxury comforts, the AWD RX 350 petrol and RX 350h offer a Sports Luxury specification, priced at $105,9001 and $111,9001, respectively.
Sports Luxury shares select specification highlights with the F Sport including AVS, PVM, high-grade Bi-LED headlamps with AHS, heated and ventilated front seats, and the Mark Levinson®2 premium audio system. RX 350 further shares Active Noise Control.
Exclusive to Sports Luxury are 10-way power-adjustable front seats with semi-aniline leather upholstery and four-way lumbar support and memory function, heated steering wheel with woodgrain ornamentation, power-folding and reclining rear seats, heated and ventilated outboard rear seats and uniquely designed 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.
The RX 350 and RX 350h Sports Luxury can be optioned with two Enhancement Packs, the first of which adds a sliding panoramic roof for $3,0001. EP 2 also adds a digital rear view mirror and Intelligent Parking Assist for an additional $9001.
Topping the all-new RX range is the RX 500h F Sport Performance - the most powerful and driver-focused RX yet - debuting the brand's first high-performance turbocharged hybrid powertrain.
Priced from $126,0001 plus on-road costs, the RX 500h F Sport Performance is available in a single, highly specified grade that includes all optional equipment from the Enhancement Packs, along with the sporting visual upgrades shared with the RX 350 F Sport including leather upholstery and aluminium ornamentation.
The flagship gains its own 21-inch alloys with a matte black finish, aluminium monoblock front callipers finished in black, front and rear bumpers with piano black side moulding, black F Sport badging and exterior window surrounds, body coloured lower side rocker trim, piano black inner side mirror garnish and Active Sound Control.
Inside, the RX 500h F Sport Performance adds front F Sport scuff plates with black logos and F Sport branded carpet floor mats, building on the excellent interior specification of the RX 350 F Sport plus EP 2.
F Sport Performance also takes F Sport's improved dynamics to the next level. The Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system incorporating Dynamic Rear Steering maximises handling and grip to thrust the 500h F Sport Performance forward as the sharpest, most responsive and fun-to-drive Lexus SUV yet.
A total of nine exterior colours are available for Luxury and Sports Luxury grades, consisting of Sonic Quartz, Titanium, Sonic Chrome, Sonic Iridium, Graphite Black, Vermillion, Khaki Metal, Deep Blue and the newly developed Sonic Copper.10
F Sport grades replace Sonic Quartz, Titanium, Vermillion and Khaki Metal with White Nova and Cobalt Mica, while the F Sport Performance palette matches the F Sport bar the loss of Deep Blue.10

DYNAMIC SPINDLE BODY, EXPRESSIVE PROPORTIONS DEFINE EVOLUTIONARY LEXUS DESIGN LANGUAGE ON ALL-NEW RX
The all-new RX continues the evolution of the next-generation Lexus design language, with an exterior design that highlights the seductive form and increased driver enjoyment of the new model.
Measuring 4,890mm long, 1,920mm wide and 1,695mm high, the new RX is 25mm wider than before with front and rear tracks widened by 15mm and 45mm respectively; while height has reduced by 10mm allowing for a 15mm reduction in centre of gravity.1
While overall length remains the same as before, the wheelbase has increased by 60mm to 2,850mm – the same as its larger LX sibling – helping to liberate extra space for occupants.
The iconic Lexus spindle grille continues its evolution into the spindle body shape on RX, removing the chrome frame around the grille and creating a new, seamless front expression.
The outer edges of the grille integrate naturally into the vehicle’s body, adding to the 3D expression created by the diamond-shaped grille elements.
With a powerful, vertically oriented grille, the front end of the RX exudes strength and dynamism, with wide side intakes further emphasising the legendary Lexus spindle shape.
The front edge of the bonnet has also been raised to make it easier for drivers to visualise the edges of the vehicle, while the height of the bonnet bulge has been carefully considered to help provide excellent line tracing during cornering.
Headlight design matches the sleek, seamlessly integrated look of the NX and LX SUV siblings, featuring Lexus’ signature L-shaped daytime running light (DRL) design and the choice of two headlight arrangements.
The high-grade headlight cluster offers a three-projector high/low-beam headlamp with BladeScan™2 adaptive high-beam technology, while the fog lamps and cornering lamps are neatly integrated into the lower part of the side air intakes.
Base models offer a bi-beam LED headlamp arrangement that includes the signature L-shaped DRLs.
Moving alongside the vehicle, the connection to the outgoing RX is seen by the darkened finish on the C and D-pillars, separating the body finish of the doors and roof to provide an elegant, sweeping impression.
Just as the vehicle lines flow downward from the roof, a sweeping character line flows upwards from the lower door sills to the rear wheels, providing a dynamic and planted stance.
A range of stylish alloy wheels are available, ranging in size from 19 to 21 inches to provide the new RX with a blend of visual sophistication and ride comfort.
At the rear of the vehicle, the new LED tail-light signature found on the rest of the Lexus SUV line-up is adopted on RX, defined by a full-width LED light signature running along the tailgate that is flanked by L-shaped tail lights.
Painstaking attention to detail is shown with fine, small L-shaped light patterns giving the tail-light arrangement a sense of depth and originality.
The Lexus ‘L’ badge has been replaced by LEXUS lettering across the tailgate to match the current design direction, while muscular wheel arches taper inwards towards the roof to give the all-new RX a sporty, planted on-road stance.
Both the rear spoiler and combination tail lights help improve rearward airflow and aerodynamics, while side fins on the lower bumper help promote straight-line stability.
The dynamic, spindle shape of the all-new RX is given a new and exciting interpretation on F Sport and F Sport Performance variants, which add multiple darkened exterior touches over Luxury and Sports Luxury grades.
F Sport changes start with a black mesh pattern applied to the grille and front side air intakes, seamlessly integrated into the body thanks to the lack of grille frame.
A unique front bumper completes the front-end F Sport look, while further black accents have been applied to the roof rails.
Exclusive 21-inch aluminium wheels with a dark metallic finish provide a strong and sporty impression, with a unique lower rear bumper and F Sport badging completing the exterior look.
Flagship F Sport Performance variants further add body-coloured lower bumpers and sills, unique 21-inch matte black alloy wheels, black accents for the front and rear bumpers, exterior mirror caps and window surrounds, and darkened F Sport badging.
The all-new RX range offers a total of nine exterior colour choices for Luxury and Sports Luxury grades, consisting of Sonic Quartz, Sonic Iridium, Titanium, Sonic Chrome, Graphite Black, Vermillion, Khaki Metal, Deep Blue and the newly developed Sonic Copper which gives off a soft reddish hue and transforms in the changing light.2
F Sport grades are available with Sonic Chrome, Sonic Iridium, Graphite Black, Sonic Copper, Deep Blue and the exclusive White Nova and Cobalt Mica hues. F Sport Performance uses the same palette, with the exception of Deep Blue.3

TAZUNA COCKPIT CONCEPT, LUXURIOUS APPOINTMENTS WELCOME OCCUPANTS TO NEW-GENERATION RX INTERIOR
The all-new Lexus RX creates an intuitive sense of unity between the driver and vehicle through its thoroughly redesigned interior, adopting the tazuna cockpit concept that further evolves Lexus’ human-centred philosophy.
Inspired by the relationship between horse and rider through a set of reins, tazuna allows the driver to keep their eyes on the road with all critical vehicle functions within easy reach.
RX designers also strove to provide a level of opulence and complete interior comfort befitting a Lexus vehicle, with high-quality materials and luxurious appointments throughout.
With a longer wheelbase and increased width over the outgoing model, the new RX provides ample space for occupants and luggage, with improved headroom and couple distance.
The driver’s field of vision has improved, while the rear quarter panel has been made as thin as possible to minimise blind-spot obstruction.
The new-generation interior provides a sense of width with an expansive dashboard that wraps around to the doors and feels like a single form connecting either side of the vehicle.
Ambient interior lighting is integrated into the dashboard, bringing an extra sense of luxury to the RX interior. The illumination is set to a white colour during ingress and egress for improved visibility, which changes to an atmospheric colour while driving.
Higher grades feature 14 different colours to select from, grouped into five different themes consisting of ‘healing’, ‘relaxing’, ‘arousing’, ‘focusing’ and ‘exhilarating’.
LED reading lights with capacitive touch sensors are available for both front and rear passengers.
New ‘L’ pattern embossing has been applied to the seats, inspired by the traditional Japanese ‘kageri’ aesthetic. The new pattern is designed to change its appearance in differing light conditions, and also features on the door trims on higher grades.
Newly designed seats are finished in synthetic leather-accented upholstery on Luxury variants, upgraded to leather-accented trim with the Enhancement Pack or semi-aniline leather-accented trim with a new perforation pattern on Sports Luxury.
F Sport and F Sport Performance grades use a combination of smooth leather-accented upholstery on the seat centres and Ultrasuede BX on the more-body hugging side bolsters incorporated into the F seats.
A range of ornamentation trims are available, starting with a newly-developed black herringbone finish for Luxury grades which feature a series of refined, horizontally oriented geometric patterns overlaid on a piano black background.1
Sports Luxury customers have the choice of two exquisite woodgrain finishes, starting with the Sumi woodgrain finish which uses beautifully grained, open-pore ash wood treated with a black finish inspired by traditional Japanese Sumi ink.1
Customers can also opt for the environmentally friendly Bamboo trim, finished with a matte brown treatment that emphasises the natural texture of bamboo while providing a calm, moderately saturated tone.1
Both F Sport and F Sport Performance grades are paired with a dark silver Aluminium ornamentation featuring a refined spin finish that evokes the sharp shading and cold texture of metal.1
Key to the tazuna philosophy is keeping all critical vehicle functions within the driver’s line of sight; with the instrument cluster, head-up display and multimedia display arranged to allow for smooth eye movement.
On all grades, an expansive, high-definition 14.0-inch touchscreen display is used to project the latest-generation Lexus multimedia system, complete with in-built satellite navigation2 and a 12-speaker Panasonic™3 audio system.
Higher grades gain a 21-speaker Mark Levinson®3 premium surround sound audio system for impeccable sound reproduction.
The multimedia system offers easy operability with its tablet-like screen layout, consisting of a set of menu shortcuts on the driver’s side, and easy-to-read list and information tiles.
Using a single physical dial for volume and power on/off function, the system offers wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay®4 and wired Android Auto™5 for effortless smartphone pairing.
The new multimedia system is paired with a sophisticated instrument cluster display and on higher grades, a colour head-up display with sensor-type steering wheel buttons.
Base-grade meters feature a central tachometer and digital speedometer, flanked by a multi-information display on one side and gauges for fuel level and water temperature on the other.
High-grade meters contain additional vehicle information within the tachometer, and allows navigation route information, driver assist system status and driving range information to be constantly displayed.
A new start-up animation displays the driver’s name if registered with the smart key or digital key, providing an atmosphere of signature Lexus omotenashi hospitality.
F Sport grades offer a configurable meter display including a race car-inspired motif that displays the tachometer as a horizontal bar running across the top of the screen.
The colour head-up display on higher grades uses touch sensor-type buttons on the steering wheel and can project a wide range of useful information.
Three modes can be selected, ranging from a minimalist display showing only vehicle speed all the way to a full display adding driver assistance system information.
Below the 14.0-inch high-definition display sits a newly developed three-zone climate control system with nanoe®3 X cabin ionisation technology, which has been redesigned to offer top-class performance with lower fuel consumption.
Rear occupants can also adjust the air conditioning via a panel on the rear of the centre console, which also contains a pair of USB-C ports.
Showing Lexus’ tireless dedication to considered improvements, small, serrated protrusions have been added to the side of the air conditioning blower fins to help reduce noise.
The centre console houses driving-related switches including the traction control switches, electronic parking brake and, on RX 350, the engine stop-start switch.
Lexus designers endeavoured to improve the ergonomics of the cabin by reducing the number of switches on the steering wheel and instrument panel, cutting the overall number from 80 switches in the outgoing RX to 51.
Two large cupholders, a tray, the shift knob and, on higher grades, a wireless smartphone charger6 are contained within the centre console, along with three USB-C ports and two 12V sockets shared between the console and centre storage box.
Further storage is found in the glovebox, door pockets, console box with two-way opening lid and front box located underneath the storage tray for a wide range of storage solutions.
A digital rear view mirror helps provide a wider field of view on higher grades, using images from the reversing camera projected onto the rear view mirror. Users can adjust the camera’s tilt, position, scale and brightness.
Owners can toggle the digital mirror on or off using a switch located at the bottom of the mirror. Luxury grades use an electrochromatic rear view mirror which improves rearward visibility in rainy or night-time conditions by reducing glare.
Rear-seat occupants are treated to comfortable and spacious seats with 40:20:40 split folding function, with power-folding capability on higher grades.
Ample cargo space is available with 612 litres of storage across the range with the rear seats in the upright position; improving the length, height and maximum available width of the luggage compartment compared to the outgoing RX.
A tonneau cover is included, while operation of the power tailgate has improved with opening time cut by 3.3 seconds and closing time by 1.6 seconds compared to the outgoing model.
On top of the exclusive meter and ornamentation, F Sport and F Sport Performance grades gain signature interior enhancements that promote the vehicles’ exciting and dynamic profile, starting with a perforated leather trim for the steering wheel and shift knob.

FIRST-EVER LEXUS TURBOCHARGED PERFORMANCE HYBRID HEADLINES POWERFUL, EFFICIENT RX POWERTRAIN LINEUP
The Lexus RX broke new ground in 2006 as the world’s first luxury SUV offered with a hybrid powertrain. The all-new fifth-generation RX sets a new benchmark for hybrid luxury motoring with the debut of the first-ever Lexus turbocharged performance hybrid in the flagship RX 500h F Sport Performance.
Customers are also offered the choice of the smooth and efficient four-cylinder RX 350h hybrid in two- or all-wheel drive, or the torque-rich 2.4-litre turbocharged RX 350 petrol engine available exclusively in all-wheel drive.
The flagship RX 500h F Sport Performance introduces a parallel hybrid system for the first time on a Lexus, in a drivetrain arrangement that uses a 2.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, six-speed automatic transmission, a pair of powerful electric motor generators and electric battery to produce a potent mix of hybrid efficiency, turbocharged power and all-wheel-drive traction.
Peak power output for the new RX flagship is 273kW, setting a new standard for the Lexus Driving Signature with its instant electric torque and all-paw grip.
The T24A-FTS 2.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine is shared between the RX 350 and RX 500h, but tuned slightly differently for the RX 500h with a reduction of three kilowatts to 202kW at 6000rpm, but an extra 30Nm for a meaty 460Nm from 2000-3000rpm to suit the hybrid performance characteristics of this variant.
High output is realised through a range of refinements to the injectors, intake ports, cooling system, oil pump and turbocharger, while introducing measures that promote both engine strength and low weight.
A long stroke is used, while the D-4ST fuel injection system is optimised with a new six-hole injector placed adjacent to the spark plugs for stable combustion, and the adoption of laser-clad valve seats that increase intake port efficiency.
A continuously variable capacity oil pump optimises oil pressure in all conditions, while the variable cooling system controls the flow rate of coolant depending on engine running condition. On RX 500h, the cooling systems for the intercooler, DC/DC converter, front and rear PCU and rear motor oil cooler have all been integrated.
The turbocharger developed specifically for the 2.4-litre engine not only helps to improve power output and fuel consumption, but also offers a level of quietness worthy of a Lexus. Noise reduction measures include the adoption of a peripheral fastening for the seal plate and an inlet splitter in the compressor to regulate air intake.
Turbo lag is reduced with optimisations for the nozzle tip shape on the turbine housing and ratios of the compressor wheel and turbine wheel diameters, while an aluminium die-cast seal plate ensures a smooth scroll shape.
On the RX 500h, the T24A-FTS engine is mated to a compact six-speed automatic transmission with manual mode to accommodate the maximum system torque of the petrol engine and high-response front motor.
The six-speed gear train employs a Lexus-first wet start clutch (WSC) acting as starter mechanism in place of a torque converter to provide smooth off-the-line performance. When the engine is running, the WSC and a second clutch are engaged, combining the engine and front motor generator torque and transmitting it to the front wheels.
When in EV mode, the WSC exclusively transmits motor generator torque to the front axle, combining with the rear motor generator to produce DIRECT4 all-wheel drive.
Along with the geartrain, two clutches and motor generator, the compact front transaxle also features two firsts for Lexus – a separate two-port vane oil pump and high-voltage electric oil pump, both of which contribute towards improved fuel economy.
An efficient, high-output eAxle motor generator is placed on the rear axle to provide DIRECT4 all-wheel drive on RX 500h, with both front and rear motors working at low speed to ensure any turbo lag is compensated for.
The torque-rich front motor can produce 64kW/292Nm, while the high-output rear motor develops 76kW/169Nm.
DIRECT4 is designed to provide excellent traction and handling stability on a range of road surfaces, taking in information from wheel speed, steering angle and G-force sensors to constantly control torque distribution in accordance with the driving situation.
Torque distribution can range from 70:30 front/rear to 20:80, allowing for faithful steering inputs that help to reduce oversteer and understeer and enhance the Lexus Driving Signature. Drivers can also view the amount of torque distribution on the multi-information display.
The RX 500h uses a newly developed nickel-metal hydride battery placed under the rear seats, with vents installed to ensure sufficient cooling for the battery.
Official combined fuel consumption for the RX 500h stands at 6.5 litres per 100km1 on the NEDC cycle, with average CO2 emissions of 148 grams per km2.
The RX 350 uses the same T24A-FTS 2.4-lite turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the RX 500h, mated to an eight-speed Direct Shift torque-converter automatic transmission with electronically controlled mechanical all-wheel drive.
Under the bonnet of the RX 350, the T24A-FTS develops 205kW at 6000rpm and 430Nm from 1700-3600rpm, allowing for powerful and responsive acceleration.
The intelligent Direct Shift-8AT transmission offers a multi-plate lock-up clutch for excellent start-off response, with the wide gear ratio providing strong acceleration and low rpm at cruising speeds.
While already factoring in conditions such as road incline, vehicle speed and accelerator application, the automatic transmission can also now use the front-facing camera to judge when to up- or downshift.
A first for Lexus, the camera can detect preceding vehicles or poor road conditions and adjust shifting tendencies accordingly.
The transmission enables the skipping of gears when accelerating or decelerating particularly strongly, while manual mode with paddle shifters is also available.
The RX 350’s all-wheel-drive system uses a high-capacity rear differential with an electrically controlled coupling, comprising two clutches: a rigid main clutch and a control clutch, which combine to help optimise torque distribution.
An all-wheel-drive ECU precisely sends torque to the front and rear using information from sensors, with a variable torque split from 75:25 front/rear to an even 50:50 that allows for faithful steering in corners, again enhancing the Lexus Driving Signature by offering optimum drive where and when it is needed most.
The RX 350 consumes an average of 8.7 litres per 100km3 on the NEDC combined cycle, with average CO2 emissions of 197g/km4.
The all-new RX range is the first from Lexus to offer two distinct self-charging hybrid powertrains, with the RX 350h featuring Lexus’ signature series-parallel hybrid system teaming a 2.5-litre aspirated petrol engine to either one or two motor generators, depending on front or all-wheel drive configuration.
Engine power comes courtesy of the A25A-FXS petrol engine running on the Atkinson cycle, tuned to produce 140kW at 6000rpm and 239Nm from 4300-4500rpm.
Together with the hybrid unit, maximum combined power output is 184kW.
The petrol engine drives the front wheels via an e-CVT, with a compact front transaxle that uses a coaxial arrangement for the power generation and drive axles.
The CVT offers a six-step sequential mode and is calibrated to offer improved engine braking when driving downhill.
A lightweight permanent magnet synchronous motor is housed within the transaxle, capable of producing an instant 134kW/270Nm of output. The new motor is capable of achieving a higher power output than before, and uses two types of cooling system to maximise efficiency and output.
A pre-loaded differential helps improve acceleration from a standing start, with linear acceleration achieved by the RX assessing G-force and accelerator characteristics and adjusting the drive force accordingly.
For RX 350h AWD variants, a second motor generator is placed on the rear axle, providing eFour all-wheel drive in low-traction conditions. The rear motor is tuned to produce 40kW/121Nm.
A new PCU reduces weight and size compared to the outgoing model and has been mounted immediately above the transaxle to free up more space in the engine compartment.
The RX 350h employs a newly developed nickel-metal hydride battery, placed under the rear seat as it is in the RX 500h.
Improvements to battery and motor technology have seen the maximum top speed in EV mode increase drastically from 68km/h to 125km/h.
With RX hybrid variants downsizing the petrol engine from a 3.5-litre V6 to a 2.5-litre four-cylinder, fuel economy has also improved with the RX 350h using as little as 5.0 litres per 100km in 2WD guise5, with CO2 emissions of 114g/km6. AWD grades average 5.4 litres per 100km7 with 123g/km of CO2.8

FLAGSHIP RX 500h MARKS DEBUT OF ENHANCED F SPORT PERFORMANCE VARIANT
The arrival of the new-generation RX marks the first time the luxury lifestyle brand has offered a model with the F Sport Performance nameplate, signifying a level of dynamism and ability never before seen in the RX family.
The RX 500h is the first variant from Lexus with an F Sport Performance designation, which aims to provide a mid-point between the F Sport and fully-fledged Lexus F performance models.
More than just a series of visual and specification upgrades, the F Sport Performance is designed to offer a more emotive take on the Lexus Driving Signature with improved powertrain output and handling.
Sitting above the F Sport in the RX range, the new halo variant represents genuine dynamic improvement that starts with the debut of the 2.4-litre turbocharged performance hybrid powertrain with the highest output of any RX variant to date.
The RX 500h offers instant electric torque from its pair of motor generators and strong acceleration from its turbocharged petrol engine, with a total system output of 273kW.
Using a parallel hybrid drivetrain arrangement, the powertrain consists of a 202kW/460Nm 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, six-speed automatic transmission and electric motor generators on the front and rear axles.
The powertrain’s clutch allows for petrol and electric power to be delivered to the wheels separately, or as a whole for maximum power and response.
Along with the newly developed high-performance hybrid, the RX 500h also debuts a new all-wheel-drive torque distribution technology called DIRECT4.
The DIRECT4 system provides all-wheel traction and provides occupants with a level of comfort and ride quality befitting a Lexus, while enhancing the Lexus Driving Signature for the driver with faithful and predictable vehicle responses.
Using information from steering angle, G-force and wheel speed sensors, DIRECT4 precisely controls the RX’s torque distribution to ensure vehicle posture remains as level as possible.
During strong acceleration, braking and cornering, torque distribution is controlled to reduce pitch and roll inertia which serves to keep the vehicle level.
Standard adaptive variable suspension (AVS) also helps to control pitch and roll inertia while further advancing ride comfort.
Torque distribution can be split between the front and rear wheels (from 70:30 to 20:80), ensuring the RX 500h offers excellent traction on slippery surfaces while minimising oversteer and understeer for faithful driver inputs.
RX 500h also introduces dynamic rear steering (DRS) exclusively on this variant, which allows the rear wheels to turn by a maximum of four degrees in either direction.
At low and medium speeds, DRS turns the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels to effectively give the RX 500h a smaller wheelbase, making it more manoeuvrable in tight spaces.
Turning the rear wheels against the front wheels also improves handling and steering response while reducing the body slip angle.
At high speeds, the wheels turn in phase with the front, promoting greater vehicle stability.
DRS works in cooperation with the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system that helps to prevent oversteer and understeer by controlling the brakes and powertrain output to stabilise the vehicle.
VDIM can also factor in braking on surfaces with differing levels of traction on the left and right wheels – such as emergency braking when only one side of wheels is connected to tarmac – using DRS and the brake systems to maximise stability.
Active Sound Control is included, which enhances the sound of the parallel hybrid system in accordance with engine and vehicle speed, accelerator operation and drive force ratio.
Compared with the previous Active Sound Control, the new system offers a simulated motor sound to go with the engine note, piped through the RX 500h’s 21-speaker Mark Levinson®1 premium surround sound system.
Befitting its status as the flagship of the RX range, the F Sport Performance gains unique exterior touches starting with unique 21-inch matte black alloy wheels, paired with black six-piston aluminium monoblock front brake callipers on larger 400mm front rotors standard on F Sport and F Sport Performance.
Black touches are applied to the front and rear bumper side moulding, F Sport exterior badges, inner side mirror garnish and window surrounds. The lower side rocker trim is matched to the vehicle’s body colour.
The addition of the F Sport Performance designation sees the RX reach new dynamic heights, furthering the Lexus Driving Signature while promoting sustainable motoring.

LIGHTER, STIFFER GA-K PLATFORM PROMOTES IMPROVED HANDLING AND RIDE COMFORT
Class-leading ride comfort and noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels have always been hallmarks of Lexus vehicles, with the all-new RX continuing the tradition thanks in part to the vehicle’s new platform.
Underpinned by the sophisticated GA-K architecture shared with the NX and ES, the new RX chassis is wider and lighter than before while improving rigidity and reducing noise suppression.
The all-new RX measures 4,890mm long, 1,920mm wide and 1,695mm high, making it 25mm wider and 10mm lower than before. Wheelbase has increased by 60mm to match the LX’s 2,850mm wheelbase, while wheel track has been widened by 10mm at the front and 45mm at the rear.1
As a result of the changes, an overall weight reduction of 80kg has been achieved, while lowering the centre of gravity by 15mm. Kerb weights range from 1995kg to 2160kg, depending on the variant.1
The rigid GA-K platform has been designed to offer superb fundamental compatibility with the RX’s suspension systems and has been further strengthened with the fitment of an internal crossmember across the rear wheelhouses.
Outriggers are used to join the apron upper member to the front side member, while larger-diameter tube nuts provide greater reinforcement for the rear suspension member mountings.
Extensive use of structural adhesive, laser screw welding and short pitch welding at key points throughout the chassis reduces unwanted vibrations and improves ride comfort.
Approximately 18.1 metres of structural adhesive is applied, while 10.6 metres of laser screw and short pitch welding marks a significant improvement of 7.4 metres in the outgoing RX.
Engineers have used the vehicle’s bonnet to help enhance rigidity by adopting a twin bonnet lock construction in place of a single lock arrangement. By using a more secure twin bonnet lock mounted to the upright pillar of the radiator support, the bonnet can help suppress deformation of the radiator supports when the wheels are turned.
The twin-lock construction also helps to reduce any unwanted bonnet vibration during high-speed cruising.
High-rigidity foam material has also been adopted on the tailgate frame, providing a lightweight solution that promotes further structural rigidity.
Multiple weight-saving measures are applied, including reducing the thickness of the side members, front door assembly and rear door assembly.
The front fenders are changed from steel to aluminium and the fuel lid from steel to resin. The thickness and material changes have contributed to a 4.9kg weight reduction compared to the outgoing RX.
In a world first, 2GPa hot stamp material is used for the centre pillar construction, reducing the size of the hinge reinforcement and resulting in a 1.3kg weight reduction.
A combination of aluminium, hot stamp and super high tensile strength material is used for the rest of the frame, with rust resistant steel applied across the vast majority of the vehicle’s underbody.
NVH reduction was a significant consideration for RX engineers, with various measures implemented to suit a range of driving scenarios.
Multiple measures are introduced to ensure a pleasant sound without harsh, high-frequency noises when closing the doors, including altering the doors’ boundary weather strips, adding damping material within the doors and adding weld spots on the rear rocker to suppress high-frequency noise, among other measures.
Reducing engine resonance is achieved with cowl braces adopted along the bottom of the windshield, and a damper installed atop the windscreen to reduce glass vibration. A lock reinforcement and damper are also installed in the tailgate to reduce vibrations.
RX 350 models also add Active Noise Control, which produces precise noise-cancelling waves through the audio speakers in sync with the engine speed from 1000-6000rpm, reducing the amount of booming inside the cabin.
High-damping mastic adhesive is strategically placed across the roof and door panels to reduce vibrations, with extensive noise dampening and silencer materials placed across the underfloor and firewall.
Even the vehicle’s aerodynamics are taken into account, using computational fluid dynamics to measure the airflow across the vehicle’s body. The front pillar and cowl louvre shapes are optimised to regulate airflow, while the door seals are revised to enhance sealing performance.
All versions of the RX employ a newly developed MacPherson strut type front suspension set-up with a multi-link arrangement at the rear, providing excellent ride comfort and handling stability.
The layout and angle of the lower arm and upper support are optimised for the new MacPherson strut front suspension to reduce harsh vertical inputs, while the revised shock absorber placement helps reduce low frequency vibrations.
The inclination angle of the shock absorber is also increased to reduce twisting movement in the shock absorber. As a result, friction force of the front suspension is reduced by 65 per cent compared to the outgoing model.
Engineers aligned the strut bearing rotation axis with the kingpin axis to provide even steering feel left and right, with a new forged aluminium suspension knuckle further contributing to the linear steering response.
A thin-walled, hollow stabiliser bar and aluminium stabiliser link are introduced to reduce weight, while the stabiliser bush has been developed to offer lower friction with a new integrally moulded aluminium seat to improves roll feel.
The positioning of the suspension lower arm bush 1 is optimised to reduce suspension displacement during cornering, with the lower arm bush 2 growing in diameter by 12mm to 72mm which helps reduce shock.
A five-arm multi-link suspension arrangement is used at the rear, with high lateral suspension rigidity achieved by optimising the rigidity of the suspension arm and bush.
Curved upper arms are introduced to improve rigidity and compactness, while the lower arm number 1 has been constructed from a single sheet of pressed steel in a first for Lexus.
A pressed steel toe control arm, forged aluminium rear axle carrier and reinforced lower arm number 2 all improve rigidity and handling stability.
Swing valve shock absorbers are adopted, capable of generating damping force even for minimal movements thanks to the addition of a low-velocity valve that picks up on smaller inputs.
F Sport and F Sport Performance grades add adaptive variable suspension (AVS), which utilises a linear solenoid actuator on each absorber to precisely control damping force in response to driving operation and road conditions.
Compared to the outgoing RX, AVS on the new model offers an expanded damping force range, allowing for compatibility with a broader range of road surfaces and driving conditions.
AVS takes into account vehicle speed, roll, pitch and vertical G-sensors to provide the best ride comfort and dynamic control possible and can be adjusted through the drive mode select function.
A new brake system has been developed for the RX with a vacuum brake system used on petrol models.
Hybrid grades employ an electronically controlled brake system that offers a natural brake feel and can independently control the front-rear brake force distribution to provide stable vehicle posture when braking.
New RX also offers a trail mode on AWD grades which can help prevent wheel slippage when driving on uneven or low-traction surfaces.
Front rotors are ventilated and measure 340mm x 28mm and use floating twin piston callipers. Luxury and Sports Luxury variants have these front rotors fitted as standard.
F Sport and F Sport Performance gain larger 400mm x 28mm ventilated front rotors with opposed six-piston aluminium monoblock callipers to support their more sporting intentions.
All variants have the same 340mm x 18mm ventilated rear discs with floating single piston calliper.
A rack assist type electric power steering system with electric tilt and telescopic adjustment is used across the range, with the F Sport Performance introducing Dynamic Rear Steering for the first time.
Three drive modes (Normal, Eco and Sport) are now accessed through the multimedia screen, with an additional Custom mode that allows users to set the powertrain, steering, air conditioning and, on AVS equipped models, the suspension parameters to their individual preferences.

LATEST ACTIVE SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES PROVIDE HIGH LEVEL OF OCCUPANT PROTECTION
The new-generation RX offers a wealth of active safety technologies to ensure the protection of occupants and other road users, using the technologically advanced Lexus Safety System +1 suite of features across the range.
The system introduces multiple new improvements over the outgoing RX to offer greater occupant protection at all speeds and in all situations.
Lexus’ Pre-Collision System (PCS) has greatly expanded its functionality, adding night-time bicyclist and daytime motorcyclist detection to the existing vehicle, pedestrian and daytime bicyclist detection capabilities with the help of a combined millimetre wave radar and monocular camera.1
PCS introduces intersection collision avoidance support for both vehicles and pedestrians, helping to reduce the likelihood of an accident when navigating an intersection.1
The system can detect vehicles and motorcycles crossing at intersections, and is designed to apply braking force if there is a high possibility of a collision.1
Intersection collision avoidance support also helps when the RX is turning at an intersection, detecting oncoming vehicles and motorcycles in up to two adjacent lanes and applying audible warnings and autonomous braking if required.1
The RX’s sensors and cameras are capable of detecting pedestrians and bicyclists crossing the road on the left or right, helping to ensure that other road users are considered when the vehicle is turning at the intersection.1
Emergency Steering Assist can help drivers safely perform evasive manoeuvres by keeping the vehicle within its lane. When the driver initiates an evasive steering manoeuvre, Emergency Steering Assist provides extra steering torque to improve vehicle stability while preventing lane departure, if the situation allows it.1
The new-generation RX is designed to suppress strong, accidental throttle inputs at low speeds to help mitigate the risk of an accident. The system triggers when the car detects strong accelerator input at low speeds with the possibility of a collision, and can offer audio warnings and a reduction in drive force as necessary.1
Functionality for the dynamic radar cruise control system is improved, starting with an expansion of the pre-set inter-vehicle distance settings that now allow for four different distances to be selected, up from three.1
Owners can now also customise the level of cruise control acceleration, and can adjust the pre-set vehicle speed at intervals of one, five or 10km/h with the press of a button.1
All-speed cruise control range is adopted, meaning the RX is capable of stop-start following in low-speed conditions.1
Additionally, when overtaking a vehicle travelling slower than the preset vehicle speed, preliminary acceleration is applied when the indicator is activated, allowing for smooth and steady acceleration.1
The system also works when changing into a lane behind a slower-moving vehicle, with the vehicle applying preliminary deceleration when turning on the indicator to help avoid unnecessarily strong braking.1
Preceding vehicles in the same or adjacent lane are also shown within the instrument cluster display when cruise control is activated.1
Road sign assist is now linked to the dynamic radar cruise control system and will notify the driver if they are driving at an excessive speed. A curve speed reduction function may also suppress vehicle speed around a corner when cruise control is activated if the system detects the curve is severe enough to warrant a reduction in speed.1
Lane Departure Alert can provide steering assistance to keep the vehicle within its lane and is designed to provide steering wheel vibration or an audible warning if it detects a possibility of the vehicle leaving its lane.1
The system will be overridden if it detects the possibility of a collision from a parked car or pedestrian on the side of the road and calculates that the driver is, in fact, making an evasive manoeuvre. The system can now recognise utility poles, curb stones, guard rails, walls and the like.1
Lane Tracing Assist offers a lane centring function, with the system using machine learning to better detect not only white lines but also three-dimensional objects, which helps accurately map out the road shape.1
The lane tracing position can also be offset if the RX is passing a vehicle in an adjacent lane or travelling close to roadside construction, providing extra distance between the other obstacles while keeping the vehicle within its lane.1
A new driver monitor is available for the first time on a Lexus, using a camera mounted on the top of the steering column to check on the driver’s state, monitoring factors such as whether the driver is distracted or if they have developed poor posture. The system is designed to offer audible warnings if the driver takes their eyes off the road for extended periods, or if they appear slumped over.1
The driver monitor is linked to the emergency driving stop system, which may bring the car to a gradual stop if it detects the driver has ceased operation of the vehicle, for example by falling asleep or in the event of a medical emergency.1
Driver monitor facial recognition can also be used to pre-set driver preferences such as customised vehicle settings.
Front and rear cross traffic alert can detect vehicles around the car approaching from the side, while rear camera detection is designed to recognise pedestrians and alert the driver with audible and visual warnings.1
Parking support brake can detect vehicles and pedestrians behind the car and obstacles around the vehicle, offering audible warnings and braking support if required.1
Parking support brake works in conjunction with rear cross traffic alert to provide braking force when vehicles and pedestrians are passing the rear of the vehicle from the side.1
Static object detection is able to assist in situations such as potentially clipping an adjacent vehicle when turning out of a tight parking space, providing a reduction in drive force and autonomous braking to avoid a collision.1
All grades offer a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines, while higher grades come equipped with a panoramic view monitor (PVM) featuring a range of viewing angles including an underfloor monitor for maximum visibility.1
Intelligent parking assist is available on grades equipped with the PVM, which can help provide steering, throttle and brake inputs to ensure safe parallel and perpendicular parking manoeuvres.1
A memory function even allows the system to recognise and register certain parking spaces such as at home or work, with up to three spaces able to be saved.1
The all-new RX offers safe exit assist linked to the blind-spot monitor system, which uses the vehicle’s e-latch door handle to help prevent collisions with cyclists.1
If the system detects an approaching bicycle when an occupant is trying to open the door onto the road, it is designed to provide flashing from the driver’s side mirror and buzzing sounds, and may momentarily prevent the door from opening if the likelihood of a collision is high.1
All RX grades offer automatic high beam to prevent dazzling other road users, while higher grades include the Adaptive High-beam System (AHS) with BladeScan™2 technology.1
AHS can recognise other road users and selectively dim the high beams using a dedicated light module consisting of 12 LED light chips and reflecting mirrors, working in conjunction with the top-mounted camera to precisely distribute light across the road, reducing the need to switch the high beams on and off.1
Three automatic modes are available to distribute light depending on vehicle speed, starting with urban mode which throws a wide field of light while adjusting brightness to reduce glare. Urban mode is activated when the vehicle is travelling between 15-30km/h.1
From 30-80km/h, normal mode offers a more forward-facing high distribution to enhance distant visibility for mid-speed driving.1
High-speed mode offers the narrowest field of light with a focus on long-distance visibility and operates at speeds of 80km/h or over.1
AHS follows the curvature of the road, and in normal and high-speed modes will channel the highest concentration of light in the direction of travel when on winding roads.1
Multiple impact-absorbing measures have been implemented throughout the vehicle’s chassis, combining with eight SRS airbags to provide excellent passive crash safety.

All serviced cars are then returned to the owner with a complimentary exterior wash and vacuumed interior.
