LEXUS INTRODUCES MOST COMPREHENSIVE PERFORMANCE RANGE

(Click here to view Lexus RC F Press Kit)

Lexus Australia is offering its most comprehensive performance range ever following the arrival of the substantially revised RC F and first RC F Track Edition.

Inspired by the famed Fuji Speedway, the home of Lexus performance vehicle development, Lexus' iconic F Marque now offers its broadest range of coupes and sedans across both flagship F Line and attainable F Sport variants.

Adopting weight-saving technologies and dynamic learnings from the iconic Lexus LFA supercar, the intensely driver-focused new RC F and RC F Track Edition coupes join the spirited GS F sports sedan as part of the thrilling Lexus F Line.

The stunning LC grand tourer rounds out a quartet of sublime performance variants, all utilising Lexus' highly acclaimed 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine to reimagine pure driving pleasure.

Between the RC F and RC F Track Edition, GS F and LC, the amazingly broad Lexus sports car range now caters for all performance-loving Australian drivers.

Highly popular Lexus F Sport variants also provide dynamic styling and suspension enhancements to match the luxurious finish of regular variants and complement the Lexus F Line and the Lexus LC.

The luxurious LS F Sport sedan is available with a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine or self-charging hybrid system. Befitting its F designation, the LS F Sport variants add Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS) to enhance handling agility.

The GS F Sport large sedan and IS F Sport midsize sedan each build on the choice of 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol, high-revving 3.5-litre petrol V6 and unique self-charging hybrid systems, with sportier brakes and suspension hardware.

The lighter RC F Sport two-door coupe ramps up driver appeal by further adding DRS to the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) and SPORT+ mode standard on all F Sport sedans, which reduces bodyroll when cornering and enhances control.

LEGENDARY LFA INFLUENCES LATEST MODELS

Lexus LFA marked both a turning point in Lexus' development and the beginning of a renewed focus for the luxury lifestyle brand.

Conceived as a halo vehicle for Lexus, Lexus' 'F' strategy positions Lexus Future Apex (LFA) at the top of its performance vehicle range. A pyramid design places the LFA at the top, F Line models in the middle and F Sport models at the foundation.

The LFA became a tangible example of the template from which all future Lexus models would be developed and evaluated.

This template encompasses sensory traits such as driving feel, response and enjoyment, and engineering 'musts' - 500 specific engineering standards that are non-negotiable.

The result is a lightweight, powerful and balanced car, featuring an advanced carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) construction for its chassis and bodywork to deliver a light, incredibly strong and highly rigid structure.

Sixty-five per cent of LFA's body structure is carbon fibre, while the remaining 35 per cent is aluminium.

At its heart is a bespoke 4.8-litre V10 engine producing maximum power of 412kW and maximum torque of 480Nm. It propels the supercar to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds and is capable of revving from idle to a redline of 9,000rpm in just 0.6 seconds.

The LFA was the result of a relentless 10-year project to develop a supercar worthy of the Lexus badge. The development process even included entering the LFA into the gruelling Nürburgring 24-hour race in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Following the excellent racing results, the completed LFA had its world debut at the 41st Tokyo International Motor Show in Japan in October 2009, before being introduced to the Australian market in October 2011.

The Lexus LFA was hand-assembled at the LFA works Motomachi plant in Japan, with only 500 examples built worldwide. A maximum build rate of just 20 vehicles per month, for 25 months, ensured peerless build quality and attention to detail during the extensive customisation process.

Each F Line, F Sport and high-performance Lexus such as LFA leverages the spiritual home of motorsport - Fuji Speedway.

All F-designated models continue to be tested and developed at the raceway in the shadows of the imposing 3776-metre peak of Mount Fuji, Japan.

LC - A GRAND TOURER WITH SPORTS CAR SOUL

Lexus has conspicuously advanced its brand evolution with its flagship LC luxury coupe featuring avant-garde styling, superb craftsmanship and ground-breaking engineering and technology.

A contemporary interpretation of the finest traditions of the grand tourer, the LC represents a remarkable transformation of the acclaimed LF-LC concept into an uncompromised production car with a distinctive athletic profile.

Unprecedented collaboration between design and engineering teams has resulted in a stunning 2+2 coupe in which every aspect of performance, responsiveness and comfort has been honed to deliver a hugely enjoyable driving experience.

The dynamic luxury theme of the LC's radical yet elegant exterior is carried through to the luxurious cabin with a driver-focused cockpit and appointments that exude sophistication, luxury and intricate attention to detail.

Many of the Takumi and skilled workers who built the LFA supercar transferred to the LC project, with their precision approach enhancing both the intricate details of its fittings and finishes and also in the way the car rides and performs.

A new GA-L (Global Architecture - Luxury) platform is pivotal to the new LC's dynamic performance, enabling a low centre of gravity and highly rigid body. The LC is the most torsionally rigid Lexus ever built.

Advanced materials and fabrication techniques used in the LFA - including ultra-high-tensile steels, aluminium and carbon fibre reinforced plastic - ensure optimum strength, light weight and balanced front-rear weight distribution.

The high-revving V8 in the LC 500, featuring direct injection and an exhilarating exhaust note, is matched to an advanced 10-speed direct-shift automatic transmission, delivering maximum power of 351kW and peak torque of 540Nm.

The hybrid-powered LC 500h delivers combined output of 264kW from its 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine and electric motor. Utilising a compact, lightweight lithium-ion battery, it delivers stunning performance while using 6.7 litres per 100 kilometres (Source: ADR 81/02 combined).

The LC complements the Lexus F Line with similarly enthralling performance teamed with exotic two-door design and a luxurious, dynamic edge.

The LC 500 is priced from $189,629* and the LC 500h is priced from $190,000*.

GS F - THE IMMERSIVE V8 SPORTS SEDAN

Combining the space and luxury of a full-sized sedan with epic performance and rear-wheel drive sports car dynamics, the GS F delivers staggeringly broad virtues.

The Lexus GS F body has more high-strength steel sheet than the GS Line, in addition to a wider body and wider tyres. Additional under-body braces have also been fitted to maximise body rigidity, similar to those developed for RC F coupe.

A four-door, five-seat sedan equipped with Lexus' renowned 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine, the GS F delivers maximum power of 351kW and maximum torque of 530Nm to provide a thrilling turn of speed - 0-100km/h in just 4.6 seconds.

The eight-speed Sports Program Direct Shift transmission is multi-faceted, with a wide range of sophisticated and driver-selectable electronic control features.

Manual shifts can even be made in M Mode either with the gear lever or paddle shifters on the steering wheel. M Mode up-shifts are made in 0.3 of a second and down changes in just 0.2 of a second, with the transmission's throttle blipping control matching the engine speed to the gear for a pure sports car driving experience.

The GS F also delivers superb handling courtesy of Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) and a special torque-vectoring differential (TVD).

Lexus TVD uses exactly controlled electric actuator motors and multi-plate clutches to ensure the appropriate amount of torque is distributed to each rear wheel.

TVD distributes torque to match the conditions of the moment, ensuring an enjoyable driving experience when negotiating S-bends. It improves vehicle posture in low-to-mid speed corners to provide more agile movement and a smaller steering angle for the same rate of turn.

Along with the immense grip generated from 19-inch Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres and incredible stopping performance from Brembo ventilated disc brakes, the GS F delivers the agile handling of a sports car - as well as the luxury of sedan space.

The generously appointed Lexus GS F is priced from $152,980*.

RC F AND RC F TRACK EDITION - DELIVERING DRAMATIC ENHANCEMENTS

The newest Lexus F Line models include the lighter, more aerodynamic and sharper RC F joined for the first time by an even faster, more focused RC F Track Edition.

Both utilise Lexus' highly acclaimed 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine that offers maximum power of 351kW and maximum torque of 530Nm, accompanied by the immediate response and thrilling sound expected of high-performance rear-wheel drive coupes.

Learnings from the heroic Lexus LFA supercar have directly influenced the RC F and RC F Track Edition engineering program, which focused on delivering stronger componentry, enhanced aerodynamics and reduced weight.

Every new RC F includes a new, more solid rear engine mount that has been developed to greatly enhance handling stability particularly at the cornering limit.

Select suspension mounts and brackets have been changed from steel to aluminium, while hollow rear-axle shafts replace solid shafts, in each case to reduce weight and enhance rigidity.

The strength of the steering rack bushing has also been increased by 150 per cent to boost steering response and significantly enhance front-wheel toe control, joining newly designed Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres to increase agility and driver feedback.

The RC F debuts improved aerodynamics with greater downforce particularly on the front axle and enlarged front-side air breathers that exhaust air from each wheelarch to ensure the suspension operates more smoothly and with great control.

Control of air flow is then directed by fin-shaped side rocker moldings - derived from the RC F GT3 race car - to new rear air breathers.

The RC F Track Edition hones that aerodynamic focus with a front lower spoiler to reduce front-end lift, and side fins produced in carbonfibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) that is strong and light weight - carbonfibre being extensively used in the LFA.

A new rear diffuser is also produced in CFRP for the RC F Track Edition, which further includes a CFRP fixed rear wing generating 26kg of downforce. Exotic CFRP is also used on the bonnet and roof of the RC F Track Edition for not only reasons of increased strength and reduced weight - but to lower the vehicle's centre of gravity.

In conjunction with 19-inch lightweight BBS alloy wheels and high-performance Brembo carbon-ceramic disc brakes to reduce unsprung mass by 25kg, and a titanium exhaust that reduces weight by 6kg, the RC F Track Edition is 65kg lighter.

The 0-100km/h performance of the RC F Track Edition is two-tenths quicker than the RC F at just 4.3 seconds, making it the fastest Lexus offered since the LFA.

Also for the first time since the LFA supercar, Lexus includes standard launch control across the RC F range to enable faster and more controlled standing-start take-off.

The function joins faster and more intuitive shifts for the eight-speed automatic transmission, and a new Torsen® mechanical Limited-Slip Differential (LSD) that ensures traction is maximised by directing torque to rear wheel with the most grip.

The result is a more immersive, involving and honed driving experience on the road or racetrack.

In addition to the series of enhancements, the entry price of the RC F has been reduced by $3600 to $134,129* while the faster and sharper RC F Track Edition is priced from $165,690*.

* Recommended retail price provided for general media release purposes only. Excludes dealer deliver and statutory charges. Optional extras at additional cost.
