Lexus increased its sales by almost 20 per cent last month with across-the-board gains for its luxury showroom of passenger cars and SUVs.

Official figures reveal March sales of Lexus cars grew 38.8 per cent compared with February while SUV sales gained 11.4 per cent.

The overall March result for Lexus of 863 deliveries, compared with 724 sales for the previous month, represented an overall improvement of 19.2 per cent.

First-quarter Lexus sales of 2,196 vehicles were stronger than the same quarter in 2016 when the luxury lifestyle brand went on to achieve its highest annual sales.

Total SUV deliveries for Lexus of 577 vehicles in March were higher than in both February 2018 and March 2017.

The NX Line has continued as the strongest performer, setting monthly sales records in January, February and March, resulting in a record first-quarter total of 1,002 vehicles.

The RX Line enjoyed its best March in seven years with sales up 29.2 per cent compared with February and 12.7 per cent ahead of March last year.

Among Lexus passenger cars, strong March sales were achieved by the IS sports sedan and the dynamic RC coupe - both of which were significantly ahead of their February results.

Lexus chief executive Scott Thompson said the imminent arrival of the luxury LS flagship sedan would provide a significant boost for the brand.

"With multiple world and Lexus firsts, the all new LS breaks new ground in design, technology and performance, and extends the boundaries of automotive luxury," Mr Thompson said.
