Lexus Australia has recorded its most successful sales month and third quarter result in its 14-year history.

The luxury car marque broke the 600 sales barrier in September, achieving a significant 21 per cent increase on its previous monthly high of 502 car sales, recorded in November 2003.

Lexus 2004 third quarter sales increased by 30 per cent over the same period in 2003 - also a record year for the fast-growing luxury brand.

The perennially-popular Lexus RX330 topped the luxury SUV segment for September. At 217 sales, 57 per cent more RX330s were bought than in the same period last year.

Recent upgrades to the RX330 line include adaptive headlights, Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The upward trend of Lexus four-wheel drive sales was also shown with a mammoth jump from 19 LX470 sales in September 2003 to 49 last month. This represents a 158 per cent increase.

In a period when the prestige car segment increased by 37.8 percent, the recent addition of a new Lexus IS300 Sport model saw more IS300s sold by the luxury brand than ever before - up 62 per cent on the previous month.

During the same period over double the number of Lexus IS200s were sold than in September 2003.

More SC430s were sold in September than in any month this year. The SC430 has also recently been upgraded with wireless Bluetooth phone connectivity and monotube dampers, giving enhanced ride and handling.

In 2003 Lexus passed Audi as the third highest-selling luxury brand in Australia.
